Summer in India has its own exotic flavour. But for the past few years there has been something more adding to the season's heat and marking the onset of a 'cricket'ful summer. It’s nothing but - “The Indian Premier League”!
Its expansion and growth has taken over even the expansion of our universe as described in the famous Big Bang theory, which is quite evident from the fact that it has gone to the extent of its chairman Mr.Lalit Modi acquiring a celebrity status and getting into controversies .
In this, there is a unique blend of “experience” of the retired or players with enviable past records and the 'burning desire to win' together with “innovation” of their younger counterparts which naturally make the teams very much competitive and the game an entertaining one with “sixes and fours” raining in summer.
Although one can argue that its basic concept is promoting “The global spirit of cricket beyond boundaries” or that it gives an opportunity and exposure for the local talents who were not able to make it to the national squad, it is very clear that this is aped from 'The Premier League'(an English football league) of a developed nation which is quite dangerous for a developing nation like India . The actual motive behind this has been "money- making" and "money- wasting" in the name of entertainment which if properly utilized can become a helping hand to an overall holistic development of the other economical part of this nation.
