Everybody gets entangled in a mad rush, getting carried away by the illusion of superficial things. The reality of the competition and craze for materialistic desires is that it makes us lose our true identity. In a mission to accomplish our so called achievements, we lose our morals, the values, the wisdom of judgment about what is right, the sense of the severity of our actions and the pain it can inflict on others. We forget to be good at heart, to care for others, to help the needy and to serve the poor. Completing the education, getting a job, chasing the salary and then getting it, so what’s next?
Is there anything
valuable than happiness? Is there anything better that you can earn than the
satisfaction of spreading happiness? Can there be anything more fulfilling than
bringing a smile on a face? It is not at all a bad idea to chase your dreams and
achieve your goals. In fact, life would be meaningless without all these. But
all these must not happen at the expense of something else. It is because life
would become even more meaningless if you earn everything and lose out on the
basics. So, what are the basics in life?
Well, according to me it is:
·
The respect for others.
·
The faith in god (yourself).
·
Honesty.
·
Patience.
·
Attitude to serve.
These are not lessons
from rocket science and you can start immediately by tweaking in the activities
of your day-to-day life.
Start from your home! Help
the people around you. Spend some good time with them and care for them. Irrespective
of your workload, make them feel special and important. Don’t criticize! Think
about others’ mistakes only to learn from them and not to make them feel bad. The
same thing should hold while seeing things from your perspective as well. If
you are criticized, see it as an opportunity to learn. This is what people call
as “The right attitude”. Gradually, expand and see the society outside your
home with the same outlook. For these to
happen, first of all, one has to be at peace with his own self. Here are a few
things which you could do to start your journey in this direction:
·
Understand yourself.
·
Develop a sense of responsibility.
·
Share your experiences with others.
·
Teach what you have learnt in life.
·
Broaden your perspective, stay curious, observe
and keep learning.
·
Forget self-centeredness.
At the end of the day,
it is not about how rich you are or how powerful you are, but it is about how
you lived your life. Life comes just once! Live it!
